My Work..
I began writing at an incredibly early age and I revered writers as much as I did professional athletes, musicians, and artists. As an only child, I derived as much joy from the arts as I did from playing sports or hanging out with friends. I was also fortunate enough to have parents that exposed me to the arts and urged me to write. I was then even more fortunate to have teachers that encouraged me to find my creative outlet and “voice.” I could always be found writing stories or poems and when I felt “stuck” I would fill my notebooks with music lyrics or dialogue from movies and shows. To this day, I will use music to free me from episodes of “writer’s block” and I still write music lyrics in my notebooks. (Pink Floyd was always helpful by the way)
As I got a little older, I realized that people enjoyed what I had written. It felt remarkable to have an audience and to hear laughter and gather feelings from them reading something I had created. I came to understand that I entertained them, made them think, or understand me more. Even if it was brief, it meant a great deal to me. It always had and it still does.
So, my writing journey, while lengthy, was not an extraordinarily complex one. It has included passion, curiosity, and a lot of hard work. Most things that mean something should always be the product of hard work. I have also been fortunate to have had amazing people helping and encouraging me along the way. Whether it be my parents, family, friends, teachers, and even my students, I have never taken support for granted.
I have never really considered myself any more than a guy that has interesting stories to tell and I have really enjoyed sharing them with you. I will continue to keep at it. I hope you keep reading them.
